About The Position

The Specialist, Communications works cross-functionally to guide and execute communications plans aligned with the needs and priorities of the MS community. This role enables staff and volunteers to promote public awareness, manage public reputation, and drive community engagement. The organization's mission is to connect and empower the MS community to create positive change, connecting them to programs, information, research, and each other. They collaborate with researchers, donors, partners, volunteers, people living with MS, caregivers, and health professionals to drive progress and make a meaningful impact towards a world free of MS.

Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, media, and/or public relations.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and create meaningful connections within the MS community.
  • Experience in communications planning, including leading and executing communications campaigns and tactics.
  • Experience writing and executing email communications and/or e-newsletters for large audiences, including drafting copy, reviewing and approving content, and analyzing performance metrics.
  • Experience writing and editing communications for internal and external audiences, such as speaking notes, messaging support, and community-facing content.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences and channels.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and coordinate communications projects from planning through execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Marketing Cloud or other email marketing platforms is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, fundraising, or event environment is considered an asset.
  • Availability to work the occasional weekend and evenings; potential for occasional travel across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Plays a lead role in enhancing the organization’s e-newsletter strategy and is responsible for the monthly delivery of the nationwide e-newsletter through cross-functional collaboration with portfolio leads and the marketing and communications team.
  • Leads the development and execution of communications plans and tactics in collaboration with key staff and/or volunteers, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and clear, audience-centered messaging across channels.
  • Partners with staff and/or volunteers to guide and support communications initiatives through writing, editing, and messaging support across channels, ensuring alignment with brand standards, messaging, and audience needs.
