About The Position

The Communications Specialist writes and edits copy for university-wide promotional and informational materials, including press releases, feature articles, and brochures. This role involves responding to media and public inquiries, distributing promotional materials, and preparing and presenting information to various sources. The specialist will assist in designing, coordinating, and presenting marketing programs, publicity efforts, and advertising campaigns, while also participating in problem identification and resolution. Additionally, the role includes planning and coordinating special events, serving as a liaison, and providing administrative and supervisory functions. The Communications Specialist will supervise assigned staff, ensuring adherence to personnel practices such as recruitment, training, and performance evaluation. Continuous personal and professional development is expected, along with maintaining comprehensive communication among all contacts and modeling professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Writes and edits copy for university-wide promotional and informational materials such as press releases, feature articles and brochures of impact.
  • Responds to requests for information from the media and public.
  • Distributes promotional materials, including flyers, brochures and press kits.
  • Prepares and presents information to internal and external sources.
  • Assists in designing, coordinating, and presenting marketing programs, publicity efforts, and advertising campaigns.
  • Participates in identification and resolution of related problems.
  • Plans or assists with planning and coordinating special events such as open houses, book signings, outreach and community events, press conferences and exhibits.
  • Serves as liaison to internal and external sources.
  • Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions.
  • Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc.
  • Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external).
  • Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
