About The Position

The Specialist 2, NS, Quality Control ensures the district and vendors are in compliance with state and federal regulations regarding various food safety and regulatory documents and permits, problem resolution, food safety training, kitchen inspections and investigations, record retention, and document distribution pertaining to kitchen permits, waivers, certifications, and documents to ensure compliance with city and state Health Codes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Microsoft Office
  • SAP
  • Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
  • Food Manager Certificate or equivalent
  • Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Oversee that the HACCP plan and food safety guidelines are being followed through inspections of the kitchens.
  • Responsible for critical decision making on potential product disposal in the school kitchens and from vendors, kitchen closures, and shutting down equipment due to food safety hazards.
  • Respond to kitchen or customer complaints regarding product issues, potential foodborne illness, equipment issues, power outage, no hot water, no gas, pest issues, or other deficiencies that may occur in the kitchen.
  • Provide food safety training for department staff.
  • Oversee the temperature monitoring devices for all kitchen coolers and freezers by evaluating temperature graphs and investigating sensor alerts and communicating proper action required.
  • Monitor vendor deliveries to ensure food safety guidelines are met.
  • Has authority to shut down a kitchen or discard products when warranted due to unsatisfactory or unsanitary conditions.
  • Responsible for thorough and accurate reporting of all inspections and investigations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
