About The Position

ABC 7/WJLA-TV in Washington, DC is looking for a Special Projects Producer. This role is for a versatile individual who can handle a wide range of tasks, from election planning to producing special investigative reports and other newsroom projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist capable of creating compelling and impactful content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms. A strong interest in politics, proficiency in interviewing candidates, and the ability to communicate with government officials at all levels are essential. The role requires comfort in producing long-form specials and Town Halls under deadline pressure. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative spirit are highly valued. A clear understanding of copyright, libel, and defamation law as they relate to the media industry is also necessary. The position requires availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, reflecting the 24/7 nature of news.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years experience in line and/or field production.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
• Clear and thorough understanding of copyright, libel and defamation law as they relate to our industry.
• Available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with SAGA/MIMIR, Premiere, Xpression, Tagboard.

Responsibilities

• Handle election planning.
• Produce quarterly I-Team specials.
• Manage other newsroom projects as they arise.
• Write, produce, research, and create graphics for compelling content.
• Produce longform specials, Town Halls, and similar productions on deadline.
• Communicate with campaigns at all levels of government.
• Create content for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
