About The Position

The Special Needs After-School Program Specialist provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for children with special needs enrolled in the after-school program. The specialist assists students with homework, reinforces elementary academic concepts, provides basic tutoring, and facilitates engaging activities that promote learning, social development, and independence. The program serves children with special needs in Kindergarten through 5th Grade.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • At least 1 year of experience with special needs children.
  • Ability to assist children in Kindergarten through 5th grade with homework and basic academic tutoring.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and pre-employment screenings.
  • Must have CPR/First Aid Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Assist children with homework and provide tutoring in elementary-level subjects, including reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics.
  • Encourage positive behavior and foster self-confidence through patience and positive reinforcement.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
  • Promote social interaction, teamwork, and communication skills among participants.
  • Adapt activities and instructional methods to meet the individual needs of children with varying abilities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, caregivers, and program leadership regarding participant needs and progress.
  • Maintain attendance records and complete required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, and emergency preparedness.
  • Participate in staff meetings and required training.
