About The Position
Broadstep Behavioral Health is seeking a Special Education Teacher to help children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges continue their education while receiving psychiatric treatment at the Venice Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) in Simpsonville, South Carolina. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the teacher provides individualized instruction in a structured, trauma-informed environment where education supports each student’s treatment and long-term success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid South Carolina Special Education teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Strong understanding of IEP development, differentiated instruction, and special education regulations.
Nice To Haves
- One or more years of teaching experience.
- Experience working with children or adolescents with emotional or behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, or other special education needs.
- Experience in therapeutic, residential treatment, behavioral health, or alternative education settings.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and South Carolina educational standards.
- Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to address each student’s academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.
- Coordinate online educational coursework and ensure students receive required accommodations and support.
- Lead the development, implementation, and annual review of student IEPs.
- Foster a safe, structured, supportive classroom using trauma-informed practices and positive behavioral interventions.
- Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, behavioral health professionals, and facility leadership to support student success.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate educational documentation and compliance records.
- Communicate with families, school districts, and treatment team members about educational progress and transition planning.
