About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Educator at Farrington High School, serving grades 9-12. The role involves co-teaching and facilitating inclusive science education for students with diverse learning needs. The teacher will partner with general education science teachers to create a supportive environment where students with IEPs can access and master Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curricula, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum qualification for teacher, librarian, or counselor positions, with exceptions for designated CTE positions).
  • If hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license.
  • Enrollment in a Program to continue employment with the Department.
  • Satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements each year of employment.
  • Upon hire, must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Special Education license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
  • Special education classroom experience in a K-12 school setting.

Responsibilities

  • Co-teaching and facilitating inclusive science education for students with diverse learning needs across grades 9–12.
  • Partnering with general education science teachers.
  • Creating an equitable and supportive environment where students with IEPs successfully access and master Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curricula (including Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science).
  • Plan and facilitate Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Exercise independent and professional judgment in carrying out daily functions.
  • Maintain an effective work pace under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Grasp new concepts quickly and apply them effectively.
  • Work effectively with others.
