Special Education Paraprofessional at Johnston Charter Academy
About The Position
Johnston Charter Academy is hiring a Special Education Paraprofessional in Clayton, North Carolina. The position is scheduled for 35 hours per week and supports students in grades K–8. The paraprofessional provides instructional and behavioral assistance in accordance with students’ individual education plans (IEPs) and/or 504-behavior plans, as directed by the special education team. Support may be provided one-to-one or in small groups. The role focuses on educating the whole student academically, morally, and socially. The paraprofessional implements curriculum and instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students resulting from their disabilities, including resource room, inclusion, and/or pullout services. The position also involves participating in professional development, specialized training, and IEP meetings with the special education team and parents, as required, and assisting with compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
- Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.
- Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.

- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities and/or behavior modifications is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance according to students’ IEPs and/or 504-behavior plans, as directed by the special education team.
- Provide support to students one-to-one or in small groups.
- Support students’ academic, moral, and social development.
- Implement curriculum and instruction designed to meet each student’s disability-related needs, including resource room, inclusion, and/or pullout services.
- Attend professional development, specialized training, and IEP meetings with the special education team and parents, as required.
- Assist with required compliance documentation.
