About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a THS Special Education Instructor to join their team at Emmett O'Brien Technical High School located in Killingly, CT. This role is responsible for the education of students with and without disabilities and the case management of students with disabilities. The instructor will employ a variety of teaching practices that reflect high learning expectations and current pedagogy, including differentiated instructional strategies and assistive technology. Responsibilities include making curriculum accommodations and modifications, collaborating with content area teachers, fostering student discourse and self-advocacy, designing and assessing transition needs, engaging in parent and community outreach, and creating a student-centered classroom environment. The position also requires knowledge of administering assessment batteries and participation in professional learning.

Requirements

  • Possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas: 065 Comprehensive Special Education, PK–12 or 165 Comprehensive Special Education, PreK–12 or 265 Comprehensive Special Education, 1–12 OR be Eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates).
  • Possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years’ experience in a high school setting (9-12 education).
  • Trade career referral experience.
  • Professional experience related to special education.
  • Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Experience with fostering and facilitating learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans.
  • Experience delivering ideas and objectives through oral and written communication.
  • Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.
