About The Position

The State of Connecticut Technical High School System (CTECS) is hiring for a Health Technology Instructor (THS Instructor - Professional) to join their professional education team at Eli Whitney Technical High School. This role involves educating students in academic and trade coursework, specifically in Health Technology. The instructor will deliver a comprehensive curriculum combining classroom instruction with hands-on clinical skills training, create engaging lessons, utilize educational technology, assess student competency, and provide meaningful learning experiences. The position requires demonstrating strong instructional abilities and practical healthcare expertise, guiding students through hands-on skill development, and potentially performing and demonstrating healthcare tasks. The role also includes obtaining and maintaining a Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements to safely transport students. Instructors are expected to participate in professional development, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to committees and initiatives supporting student success. Health Technology students learn about health care safety, nutrition, characteristics of health care teams, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, and effective communication including medical terminology. The program provides broad-based exposure to a variety of health careers, and students are eligible to become certified nursing assistants in grade 11. Responsibilities include curriculum delivery, clinical supervision, classroom management, student assessment, skill validation, and ensuring industry compliance.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in a related field (6 years with an associate degree or higher).
  • A License or a temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license.
  • Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to obtain a CT 109 Health Occupations - Vocational Technical Schools endorsement.
  • Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to obtain BLS instructor certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to obtain an American Red Cross CPR instructor certification.
  • Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements required to drive the student transport vehicle.
  • Within the first year of employment, candidates are required to complete 3 CCSU courses: VTE 113, VTE 116, and Special Education.
  • Possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of work experience in a long-term care or rehabilitation facility.
  • Experience teaching, preparing lesson plans, differentiated learning and assessing students.
  • College Career Pathway (CCP) or UCONN Early College Experience (ECE) instructors.
  • Have completed the following courses at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU): VTE 113, VTE 116 and Special Education.
