The Language Services Unit at the New York County District Attorney’s Office provides interpretation and translation services for criminal investigations and prosecutions. Under close supervision, qualified Spanish interpreter/translator interns translate between English and Spanish, proofread translations, interpret during in-house interviews, screen Spanish audio recordings, and prepare accurate transcriptions and translations. Materials may include legal documents, statements, audio recordings, press releases, forms, and letters. Interns also assist with other language-related tasks and support Unit staff with assignments as directed by a supervisor. Applicants must be enrolled as a college junior or senior, in a graduate or other language-related program, or meet the stated minimum qualification as a matriculated college student or recent college graduate by June of the program year. Preference is given to students enrolled in translation or interpretation programs. Applicants need strong bicultural awareness and strong spoken and written English and Spanish skills, including idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms; prior knowledge of legal language is not required. The Spring Internship runs February 22, 2027–April 30, 2027. Interns work two days per week, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and must commit to the complete term. The internship appointment is valid only for the program period, June–August, as stated in the posting. City residency is not required. Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter with two sample translations, an unofficial transcript showing current enrollment, and three professional references. Candidates will be expected to interpret consecutively in a mock interrogation as part of the interview process.
