The Healthcare Interpreter ensures equal access for all by serving as the linguistic and cultural intermediary of the healthcare encounter. The interpreter also serves as a cultural broker, clarifier, and advocate to ensure positive clinical outcomes. This role requires the ability to interpret oral and written communication (Spanish to English/English to Spanish) in a healthcare environment and work night shifts. The interpreter will proactively respond to requests for language access, including in-person, telephone, and video interpreting, as well as basic translation. They will leverage technology, troubleshoot basic application issues, and maintain relationships with internal customers. The role involves interpreting information regarding patient and family healthcare needs, such as patient education, appointments, discharge instructions, procedures, and emergency encounters, ensuring accuracy and cultural sensitivity. Additionally, the interpreter will act as a cultural broker, educating caregivers on patient cultures in relation to healthcare, and will abide by professional conduct standards and national practice standards. Basic written translation within department guidelines is also a responsibility.
