About The Position
This professional-track position has a course-load of 4-3-2 (27 credit-hours per year). While teaching faculty do not have a research/publication expectation, the successful candidate is expected to stay current in the field through various professional development activities and serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to: Teaching (70%), Professional Assignment (10%), and Citizenship (20%). Teaching faculty lend service to the college, university, and profession at large, as well as contribute actively to the life of the department. Faculty are expected to work in a respectful and collegial manner with all colleagues, including department faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, and student instructors. This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
Requirements
- PhD in Hispanic/Spanish literature, cultural studies, Hispanic linguistics, foreign language education, applied linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or similar emphasis. The required degree must be completed prior to the start date.
- Experience teaching Spanish courses at the university level.
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English.

Responsibilities
- Teach nine courses per year (27 credit hours), including a variety of courses at the undergraduate level, such as Third-Year Spanish Reading, Grammar, and Culture, and/or Third-Year Spanish Composition, depending on expertise.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
- Participate in academic conferences and workshops (at BYU and at other venues), sharing and learning best practices in teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture.
- Lend service to the college, university, and profession at large.
- Contribute actively to the life of the department.
- Work in a respectful and collegial manner with all colleagues, including department faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, and student instructors.
