About The Position

Metlang, a veteran-owned provider of interpretation, translation, and monitoring services to the law enforcement community nationwide, hires Spanish Analytic Linguists to support law enforcement investigations into narco-trafficking, counterfeiting, terrorism, fraud, and money laundering. The work involves monitoring, transcribing, translating, interpreting, and analyzing source material. The position offers project-based, on-site employment at $40.05 per hour, along with benefits including major medical insurance pending eligibility, a 401(k) retirement account, sick time, paid vacation, and paid federal holidays.

Requirements

• Clear, concise, effective written and spoken communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to summarize and translate audio and text, including slang and colloquialisms, in real time.
• Prior interpreting and/or translating experience in a professional or personal setting.
• Ability to prioritize tasks while demonstrating attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media, and text-message terminology in English and Spanish.
• Typing speed exceeding 40 words per minute.
• Ability to adapt under pressure and function cohesively in a team environment.
• Availability to work a rotating schedule.
• Must pass writing, reading, listening, and speaking language tests in English and Spanish, or provide prior test results as required by contract.
• Applicants selected must pass a government security background investigation and meet eligibility and suitability requirements.

• Availability to work full time locally and travel outside the local area for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Monitor foreign-language communications by listening to or reading them and typing summaries in English.
• Transcribe spoken language into written form in the same language.
• Translate spoken or written material from one language into written form in another language.
• Interpret orally, consecutively or simultaneously, from a source language to a target language.
• Analyze information methodically and in detail for purposes of explanation and interpretation.
