About The Position

The Southeast Regional Black Campus Ministry (BCM) Coordinator provides specialized leadership for the development and expansion of Black Campus Ministry across the region. This role gives strategic attention to the spiritual formation, leadership development, and ministry effectiveness among Black students and Intervarsity staff, ensuring that BCM expressions are culturally grounded, theologically rich, and aligned with InterVarsity’s mission of witnessing communities on campus. The BCM Coordinator functions as a regional resource, coach, and ministry builder for Black student ministry across Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and predominantly White institutions (PWIs). This includes shaping regional vision for BCM, equipping staff and student leaders, and fostering sustainable ministry structures that lead to long-term growth and multiplication of Black witnessing communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ongoing call to ministry service with InterVarsity and its mission.
  • 3-5 years’ prior experience as an InterVarsity Campus Staff (or equivalent ministry experience) required.
  • Ministry skills (including the ability to communicate spiritual vision, teach spiritual and biblical principles, plan ministry programs, and spiritually disciple, coach and mentor).
  • Familiarity with word processing, presentation, email, and spreadsheet software.
  • A working knowledge of current Microsoft software applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (including ability to minister to diverse ethnic communities and faculty).
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work and collaborate with others in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to network, build partnerships and represent Collegiate Ministries effectively.
  • Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently without close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ministry leadership and pastoral supervision across a region in an area of expertise or in work with a focused campus ministry.
  • Provide specialized leadership for the development and expansion of Black Campus Ministry across the region.
  • Give strategic attention to the spiritual formation, leadership development, and ministry effectiveness among Black students and Intervarsity staff.
  • Shape regional vision for BCM, equip staff and student leaders, and foster sustainable ministry structures.
  • Coach and mentor Black staff, student leaders, and supporting staff engaged in ministry to Black students across the region.
  • Initiate and strengthen BCM chapters at HBCUs and PWIs, with attention to strategic campus selection and sustainable ministry models.
  • Design and lead regional BCM gatherings, trainings, Bible studies, and conferences that address Black student identity, discipleship, and mission.
  • Partner with Regional and Area Directors to align BCM strategy with broader regional priorities.
  • Raise and sustain a significant regional BCM budget (e.g., $60,000–$70,000+).
  • Cultivate ministry partners invested in Black student ministry.
  • Regularly teach Scripture, train leaders, and represent BCM within regional and national InterVarsity spaces.
  • Help integrate national BCM goals, priorities, strategies, and initiatives into regional and local campus contexts.
  • Assist and lead other ministry staff in community growth, prayerful dependence on God, setting spiritual vision and direction, developing training programs, recruiting and placing staff, providing pastoral care and personal development, and providing ministry training and professional development.
  • Oversee the campus work of focused ministry staff.
  • Provide regular feedback and evaluation of ministry staff, including contributing to annual performance reviews.
  • Mentor ministry staff who have a growing interest in focused ministry.
  • Engage regularly in ministry to students and/or faculty by teaching from Scripture, leading in prayer, and discipling for spiritual growth.
  • Engage positively with the supervision received from the ministry director.
  • Provide administrative services and financial management to ministry staff as requested.
  • Ensure adherence to regional and national policies, procedures, reporting requirements and financial guidelines.
  • Report regularly to supervisor on assigned work.
  • Develop a ministry team of partners who will resource the ministry financially, in prayer, or with volunteer service.
  • Serve as an ambassador of InterVarsity to individual partners and churches.
  • Develop and maintain a ministry among partners that will fund InterVarsity.
  • Ensure ministry budget is fully funded.
  • Supervise each minister’s MPD and equip ministry staff to build ministry partnerships.
  • Build resource networks with alumni, volunteers, churches, advocacy councils, and major donors.
  • Communicate regularly and minister to ministry partners.
  • Maintain sound financial status of the area through management of budgeting, expense control and MPD.
  • Accomplish all other assigned tasks as appropriate.
