About The Position

This position is for an Academic Year and involves assisting a Campus Minister with the Alternative Break program (ABE). The role includes communicating with service learning sites, recruiting and training co-leaders, organizing participant recruitment, managing budgets and scholarships, planning reflection events, and providing general support to Campus Ministry. The position also emphasizes leadership and worldview formation, requiring active participation in trainings and meetings, and regular check-ins with Campus Ministry staff. The assistant will represent Campus Ministry and its programs positively to various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Have prior participation in ABE programming, strongly preferred
  • Have an interest and passion for the work of service and social justice and the ABE Core Values
  • Desire to grow in their own spirituality
  • Have good oral and written communication skills
  • Be able to effectively facilitate one on one, small and large group activities
  • Be a self-motivated and reliable leader
  • Be supportive of the ecumenical and interfaith nature of campus ministry

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with a Campus Minister, communicate with ABE service learning sites and serve as an informed resource person for all ABE trips.
  • In collaboration with a Campus Minister, recruit, interview, select and train co-leaders for service-learning trips.
  • Create materials, advertise, and organize participant recruitment for service-learning trips.
  • Represent the ABE program in a positive way to the community.
  • Project the budget for the ABE trips and coordinate the ABE program scholarship process.
  • Attend ongoing needs & issues of trips as they arise, before or after trips.
  • Receive and organize paperwork for trips, and follow-up as needed.
  • Plan and facilitate Justice Cafe events to provide space for on-going reflection and discussion.
  • Work cooperatively with the Campus Minister.
  • Provide support for Campus Ministry as needed including event advertising and support, helping to coordinate Campus Ministry fundraisers, helping to maintain Campus Ministry blog and website, and assisting professional staff with projects as needed.
  • Be dynamically involved in leadership and worldview formation: If religious, attend a weekly worship service. If non-religious, regularly attend to the development of your personal worldview. Active participation in Campus Ministry student leader trainings and meetings.
  • Meet regularly with a member of Campus Ministry staff for spiritual development, articulation of progress towards meeting goals, and dialogue about areas of concern.
  • Be willing to collaborate with other student leaders of Campus Ministry.
  • Represent Campus Ministry and all its programming in a positive way to students, parents, staff and faculty, sisters and community members.
  • Other Campus Ministry tasks as needed
