About The Position

Morton's The Steakhouse in Hackensack, New Jersey, is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join its team. Located at the Shops at Riverside, the restaurant is known for USDA Prime-aged steaks, seafood, an elevated dining experience, and the Bar 12-21 atmosphere. The role is for a culinary leader focused on food quality, team development, and contributing to the restaurant's standards of excellence. The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef with managing back-of-house staff and kitchen operations in an upscale or fine-dining environment. The role supports staff training and development, labor and cost management, inventory and ordering, guest satisfaction, and kitchen sanitation and organization. The listed pay range is USD $68,000 to $78,000 per year.

Requirements

At least 2 years of culinary management experience in an upscale or fine-dining establishment.
Strong knowledge of and attention to back-of-house operations, including staff supervision, inventory controls, food and labor costs, and product quality.
Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
Stable and progressive work history and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

Promote guest satisfaction through a hands-on, lead-by-example management style and a “Do Whatever It Takes Attitude.”
Assist the Executive Chef in managing back-of-house staff in an upscale or fine-dining kitchen, including ongoing training, development, and follow-up.
Achieve or exceed budgeted labor and other cost-center goals through proper planning and execution.
Assist with weekly and monthly inventories and ordering food and supplies.
Maintain sanitation procedures and an organized work area in accordance with OSHA regulations.
