About The Position

The Sorter safely and efficiently processes incoming recyclable materials so that outbound commodities are acceptable for sale to brokers or mills. The role involves sorting and segregating recyclable materials, placing them in designated chutes, inspecting incoming loads for unacceptable waste, and coordinating with equipment operators about loads requiring special attention. The Sorter also assists coworkers with heavy or bulky items and follows company safety procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in an emergency.

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a recycling facility sorting recyclable materials.

Responsibilities

• Sort and segregate recoverable materials such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper from incoming waste.
• Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into the appropriate chute.
• Assist other sorters with heavy or bulky items as needed.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations.
• Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste and remove unacceptable items as required.
• Communicate with equipment operators about incoming special-waste loads or other loads requiring special attention.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
