About The Position

Bolder Apps is hiring a Solutions Architect to design systems for products built for US-based clients. The role leads technical discovery and translates client ideas into architectures, scopes, and plans the engineering team can deliver. It is a design and review role, not a production-coding position: the Solutions Architect guides developers, reviews code and architecture, and owns technical quality from kickoff through launch. Projects span web, mobile, and AI products, including systems with multi-tenant configurations, third-party integrations, and privacy and security requirements. The role works with clients, sales, project managers, and engineers to establish sound technical designs, scope and manage risk, and ensure delivered products match the intended architecture. The position is hourly, contract, and fully remote within the United States. Bolder Apps describes itself as a product development studio serving US-based startups and established companies. Its work includes AI-powered development, full-cycle product creation, and engineering team augmentation. The company emphasizes autonomy, ownership, collaboration, fast execution, and the use of AI in its work.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years designing systems as a solutions architect, technical lead, or in a similar role.
  • Agency, consultancy, or studio experience designing for multiple clients and managing context changes without sacrificing quality.
  • Experience owning the architecture of client products that launched and served real users.
  • Strong backend and data fundamentals, including API and relational data-model design using Postgres or a similar database.
  • Cloud architecture experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including containers, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Experience designing integrations involving third-party APIs, webhooks, SSO and OAuth, background queues, and failure handling.
  • Hands-on AI architecture experience designing LLM or RAG features for production client products, including evaluation and consideration of cost, latency, and testing.
  • Ability to review code and architecture, identify when implementation deviates from the design, and explain corrective action to engineers.
  • Ability to lead client-facing technical calls and explain trade-offs clearly to nontechnical founders.
  • Ability to write clear technical scopes and estimates that engineering teams can meet.
  • Daily use of AI tools in design, review, and writing workflows.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, row-level security, or white-label deployments.
  • Experience with products subject to strict privacy or compliance requirements, such as sensitive personal data, data residency rules, or third-party security audits.
  • Mobile architecture experience with React Native or Flutter.
  • Comfort reviewing TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS or similar) and React or Next.js code.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical standards for a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery with clients, identify constraints, and turn initial ideas into clear solution designs.
  • Design system architecture for web, mobile, and AI products, including services, data models, hosting, and component interactions.
  • Write technical proposal and scope-of-work content, including modules, user flows, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and estimates.
  • Design third-party API and vendor integrations, including retries, queues, webhooks, monitoring, and provider flexibility.
  • Plan multi-tenant and white-label systems with appropriate data isolation and access control.
  • Incorporate security and privacy considerations such as encryption, audit logs, consent, data residency, and audit evidence.
  • Design AI and LLM features, including model selection, retrieval-augmented generation, guardrails, and production quality evaluations.
  • Plan phased delivery, beginning with a lean MVP while preparing the design for the broader product build.
  • Work with sales and project managers on scope, timelines, and risks, and raise concerns about infeasible plans early.
  • Review developers’ code, pull requests, and technical approaches; identify and explain deviations from the design.
  • Guide and unblock engineers, set technical standards, and own technical quality through delivery and handover.
  • Keep architecture documentation current so team members can understand and continue the work.

Benefits

  • Steady pipeline of client work as part of a growing team.
  • Ownership over technical design without a rigid playbook.
  • Direct access to decision-makers, with no extra layers between the role and people responsible for outcomes.
  • A peer network of engineers, designers, and project managers working on overlapping projects.
  • A wide mix of web, mobile, and AI products for the US market.
