About The Position

AWS is looking for a highly motivated Solutions Architect to join the World Wide Public Sector Nonprofits practice. You'll serve as the technical lead for a portfolio of nonprofit research organizations, helping them design and implement cloud architectures that advance science at scale. This role sits within a sales and business development team — your technical expertise will directly inform planning and strategy. You'll need both the consultative and leadership skills to launch projects on a trajectory to success, and the ability to help diverse groups understand application architectures and integration approaches.

Requirements

• 5+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
• 5+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
• 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
• Consultative skills — the ability to listen, understand customer needs, and translate them into technical solutions
• Technical leadership — comfort guiding architectural design decisions and deep-diving into implementation details
• Intellectual curiosity — a drive to keep your technical skills current while maintaining a pulse on industry trends
• Communication skills — experience presenting to small and large groups, from whiteboard sessions to executive briefings
• Operational awareness — understanding of web site/services operations, management, and security

Nice To Haves

• Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries
• Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud
• Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective

Responsibilities

• Own the technical engagement and success of customer implementation projects
• Design cloud architectures leveraging AWS services
• Provide thought leadership on security best practices for applications, servers, and networks
• Respond to RFPs and define implementation approaches
• Serve as a subject matter expert on security as it relates to customer applications and services
• Lead whiteboard sessions, technical deep-dives, and presentations for audiences of all sizes
• Capture and share best practices across the SA community
• Collaborate with and learn from some of the brightest technical minds in enterprise architecture
• Mentor peers and customers while staying current on AWS innovations and industry trends
• Travel up to 30%
