Solid Waste Crewchief (2 Openings) (Blight)
About The Position
This position works under the supervision of an assigned supervisor and directs a small work crew in the collection of garbage, trash, and recyclables. The Crewchief participates in the work being performed, such as picking up garbage carts, debris, and appliances and dumping them into the truck. The role involves driving a packer-type truck equipped with a hydraulic lifting device to collect garbage and trash on designated routes, transporting loads to disposal areas, and operating the hydraulic lever to dump loads. Daily inspections of truck equipment, including tires, brakes, and various fluids, are required. Preventive maintenance such as greasing parts and fueling the truck and assigned equipment is also part of the duties. The Crewchief provides working directions to various crews performing solid waste functions, is responsible for the completion of assigned routes, and reports unusual situations and code violations related to collection to management. Communication and reporting of route status, including start and completion times and tonnage, are essential.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to operate a packer-type truck with a hydraulic lifting device
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and inspection
- Ability to provide working directions to a crew
- Ability to report on route status, tonnage, and code violations
Responsibilities
