About The Position

This position is responsible for the daily operation and oversight of a City-Operated residential convenience center. The attendant ensures safe and efficient handling of solid waste and recyclable materials, monitors and controls access to the center, and directs residents to the proper containers for various types of waste. They also inspect incoming loads for compliance, provide customer education on disposal and recycling practices, and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the facility. Communication with supervisors regarding operational issues and maintaining daily logs are also key aspects of the role. The attendant may occasionally operate City-owned vehicles or equipment within the facility.

  • Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the convenience center, including sweeping, picking up litter and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Ensures containers are properly staged for collection and that materials are not overflowing or causing safety hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of a City-Operated residential convenience center.

  • Direct residents to proper containers for disposal of solid waste, recyclables, yard waste, bulky waste, and other accepted materials.
  • Inspect incoming loads to ensure compliance with City policies and to prevent illegal dumping, hazardous materials, and prohibited waste.
  • Provide customer service and education to residents on correct disposal and recycling practices to reduce contamination.
  • Stay informed about solid waste and recycling handling practices and enforce center rules and policies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the convenience center, including sweeping, picking up litter, and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Communicate with Supervisors regarding container capacity, equipment needs, and operational issues.
  • Implement and maintain daily activity logs and incident reports.
  • Operate tablet devices and standard computer applications for data entry and documentation.
  • Occasionally utilize City-owned vehicles or equipment within the facility for tasks such as container staging, traffic flow management, safety concerns, or operational/emergency response.
