Soiled Laundry Sorter

Crown Laundry Svc•Selma, AL

About The Position

The Soiled Laundry Sorter sorts returned, soiled linen into appropriate classifications in preparation for washing. The role involves opening customer-returned soil bags, discarding the plastic, and spreading the linen on a soil belt so it can be seen and sorted. Bags weigh approximately 45 pounds, and the production standard is 45 bags or 2,000 pounds opened per hour for each operator. Operators on the work platform move between positions along the belt, sorting linen into the appropriate bins or slots, and move empty carts to the designated area for cleaning and reuse. The employee must seek approval before acting on anything unusual or outside normal operations. Within normal operations, the employee may appropriately dispose of non-regular items found in soil bags, call maintenance when equipment is not working correctly, and tag broken carts for repair. The work requires frequent bending, standing, twisting, walking, lifting, and use of both hands for grasping and pushing or pulling. The employee picks bags from inside bins and places them on a table to open them. The workplace is not climate-controlled and may be extremely hot in summer or cold in winter. The posting also identifies potential exposure to blood, fluids, or tissue.
