About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a technically skilled, software-focused Field Support Engineer/Representative to support the deployment, integration, operation, troubleshooting, and demonstration of advanced Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) software capabilities. The position serves as a technical bridge between the GRIMM software engineering team and operational users, applying Linux, networking, software configuration, scripting, diagnostics, and application troubleshooting skills in laboratory, integration, training, demonstration, and field environments. The role works closely with software developers, systems engineers, EW subject-matter experts, program management, and government customers to ensure GRIMM capabilities are correctly configured, integrated, understood, and successfully employed. The position requires travel of approximately 40% CONUS/OCONUS for integration events, exercises, demonstrations, and customer activities. The role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; or 3 years of relevant experience with a related master’s degree; or an associate’s degree and 9 years of relevant experience. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal degree requirements where appropriate.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, preferably including command-line administration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience installing, configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting software applications.
  • TCP/IP networking and network troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, PowerShell, or comparable scripting.
  • Ability to read and interpret application and operating-system logs.
  • Experience with SSH/SCP/SFTP and other common remote-administration tools.
  • Experience with software configuration and version management.
  • Basic understanding of software development and release lifecycles.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed or networked software systems.
  • Ability to distinguish application, operating-system, network, configuration, and hardware-related failures.
  • Familiarity with Git or similar source/version-control systems.
  • Experience with issue-tracking and collaboration environments such as Jira, Confluence, GitLab, or comparable tools.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 40% CONUS/OCONUS in support of integration events, exercises, demonstrations, and customer activities.

  • CompTIA certification (Security+, Network+, CCNA) and/or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • Previous experience as a Field Support Engineer, Systems Integration Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, Software Support Engineer, Mission Systems Engineer, or technically oriented Field Service Representative.
  • Experience supporting DoD software-intensive R&D or rapid-prototyping programs.
  • Experience deploying developmental software into operational or representative field environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development and working directly with development teams.
  • Active Secret clearance or higher.
  • Python scripting for automation, diagnostics, data processing, or system integration.
  • Linux system administration in Ubuntu, Red Hat/RHEL, Rocky Linux, or comparable environments.
  • Docker/containerized applications and basic container troubleshooting.
  • Git/GitLab and CI/CD concepts.
  • REST APIs, JSON, XML, message-based interfaces, or other machine-to-machine integration mechanisms.
  • VMware or other virtualization environments.
  • Network analysis using Wireshark/tcpdump.
  • SQL or basic database administration/querying.
  • Cybersecurity hardening and secure software configuration.
  • Software deployment in disconnected, restricted, classified, or bandwidth-constrained environments.
  • Distributed/networked sensor systems.
  • Software-defined radio or RF/EW applications.
  • Data visualization, signal-processing applications, or geospatial/user-interface software.
  • DoD tactical networks, mission systems, or C2 environments.
  • Relevant background in Electromagnetic/Electronic Warfare, SIGINT/ELINT, Electromagnetic Warfare Support (ES), spectrum monitoring/management, RF sensing, geolocation and direction-finding, software-defined radio, distributed sensor systems, intelligence or mission-processing software, or DoD command-and-control or tactical software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, update, and validate GRIMM software applications and associated services across development, integration, demonstration, and field environments.
  • Diagnose application failures, configuration and service problems, communications and data-flow issues, and software/hardware interface problems.
  • Perform Linux administration for fielded systems, including process and service management, permissions, file systems, networking, software packages, logs, and configuration files.
  • Support software release deployment and verification, including patches, configuration updates, and mission-specific builds; verify installation integrity and document configurations.
  • Collect and analyze application, operating-system, network, and system logs to identify root causes and provide actionable information to software engineering teams.
  • Configure and troubleshoot IP communications among GRIMM components, sensors, user interfaces, and external systems using SSH, ping, traceroute, tcpdump/Wireshark, and related tools.
  • Develop or modify basic Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar scripts to automate configuration, deployment, diagnostics, data management, and system-support tasks.
  • Support integration of GRIMM software with RF/EW sensors, external data sources, networks, command-and-control applications, and government or third-party systems.
  • Configure and operate GRIMM capabilities during integration events, demonstrations, exercises, experimentation, and operational assessments; troubleshoot in real time to maintain event objectives.
  • Execute acceptance procedures, regression checks, system health checks, and operational workflows after software updates or configuration changes.
  • Provide hands-on instruction to operators and technical users on software operation, configuration, startup and shutdown, mission workflows, troubleshooting, and basic system administration.
  • Reproduce software issues found in the field, collect logs and diagnostic artifacts, document conditions and reproduction steps, and coordinate resolution with software and systems engineering teams.
  • Document software defects, field observations, enhancement requests, and integration issues in the program’s issue-tracking and configuration-management environment.
  • Develop and maintain installation procedures, configuration and troubleshooting guides, operator documentation, release notes, quick-reference materials, and field-support knowledge.
  • Serve as a technically credible onsite representative to government operators, engineers, and program personnel while coordinating with the GRIMM development team.
