About The Position

Intuitive Machines is seeking a motivated and experienced Software Systems Engineer to join its team in Palo Alto, California; the role may also be based remotely within the United States. The position applies systems engineering principles to the design, development, and integration of software systems within a broader system context. The engineer works proactively with customer stakeholders and systems and subsystem engineers to align software development with overall system goals, architecture, and operational requirements. The role involves defining and integrating flight software requirements and architecture, coordinating software integration, and developing integrated use cases for verification and validation. It also uses model-based development, including UML and SysML, to represent system and software architecture, support early requirements validation, and identify integration issues. The engineer leads technical discussions with customers and represents software systems engineering perspectives in trade studies and other technical initiatives from concept through implementation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in systems engineering and/or software systems engineering.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for customer reviews and technical meetings.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming and object-oriented programming principles.
  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, FreeRTOS, or cFS.
  • Overall knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, such as ADCS, C&DH, power, propulsion, and payload.
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements management tools and processes, such as JAMA or DOORS.
  • Understanding of verification and validation methodologies and practices.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions with customers and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including SysML and UML modeling.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft mission lifecycles.
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner who takes initiative and drives results.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and openness to using new tools to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Interface Control Document (ICD) development experience.
  • Trade study analysis and decision matrix experience.
  • INCOSE CSEP certification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze ConOps and system and subsystem specifications to decompose, generate, and allocate flight software requirements in alignment with system objectives.
  • Define high-level software architecture that supports functional and non-functional requirements and aligns with system safety considerations.
  • Coordinate with flight software architects and the development team to ensure software components integrate seamlessly with other system components.
  • Develop integrated use cases to verify that software meets specifications and performs as intended in the system context.
  • Develop UML and SysML models representing system and software architecture to support early requirements validation and detection of integration issues.
  • Lead technical meetings and discussions with customers, representing software systems engineering perspectives for trade studies and other technical initiatives from concept through implementation.

Benefits

  • Paid time off.
  • Health and welfare insurance.
  • 401(k) for eligible employees.
  • Incentive eligibility, with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results; the plan and target amount are determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
