Software Systems Engineer

HP•Spring, TX
•$93,400 - $143,800

About The Position

This role drives the design of software systems running on multiple platform types, including writing and executing test plans and developing debugging and testing scripts and tools. It identifies, diagnoses, and resolves software defects, performance bottlenecks, and other technical issues through systematic troubleshooting. The engineer collaborates with stakeholders to define system requirements and design robust architectures that meet business objectives while considering technical constraints. The role also develops advanced knowledge of computing system integration and recommends software and hardware configurations and developments. The position installs, configures, tests, and maintains operating systems, application software, and system management tools; designs limited enhancements and programming changes for systems software portions and subsystems; analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities; and writes and executes portions of testing plans and documentation. It participates in concept design and requirements discussions, helps improve the lifecycle of services from inception through refinement, and provides support such as system design consulting, software platform and framework development, capacity planning, and launch reviews. The engineer works with project teams and internal and outsourced development partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions, communicate project status and resolve issues, and contribute research, analysis, recommendations, reports, and knowledge sharing. The role typically calls for 2–4 years of work experience, preferably in systems engineering, computer programming, or a related field, or an advanced degree with little or no work experience. A four-year or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related discipline is recommended, or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence. Preferred certifications are Certified Software Systems Engineer (CSSE) and Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).
