Software Integration & Middleware Engineer

Trideum Corporation•Fort Belvoir, VA

About The Position

Trideum Corporation is seeking a Software Integration & Middleware Engineer to design, develop, and sustain high-performance middleware components for a complex, multi-system Army simulation environment. The role bridges the Digital Engineering (DE) Environment with Government-developed systems such as OneSAF and communications and network models, enabling real-time interoperability, deterministic data exchange, and scalable distributed simulation. The engineer develops and maintains software bridges and protocol adapters, integrates middleware with virtualized DE Environment components, and supports reliable, low-latency message brokering across simulation environments. The position also involves automated testing and CI pipelines, troubleshooting distributed simulation issues, and collaborating with Government engineering teams on interface definitions, integration timelines, and multi-lab test events. Minimal travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-performance middleware, protocol translation, and real-time distributed systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C++, Python, DDS, ZeroMQ, gRPC, and related middleware technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux SDN tools (TAP/TUN, tc/NetEm), virtual networking, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes) and distributed Linux systems.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD simulation systems such as OneSAF, communications models, or similar federated architectures.
  • Background in tactical networking or real-time embedded systems.
  • Experience in CI/CD automation, performance profiling, and protocol compliance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, package, and maintain software bridges that translate, route, and synchronize data among federated systems.
  • Work with the systems engineering team to translate SE artifacts and SysML diagrams into running applications.
  • Build and refine protocol adapters supporting C++, Python, DDS, ZeroMQ, gRPC, and related real-time communication frameworks.
  • Investigate and implement network throttling and shaping interfaces, including TAP/TUN virtual devices, tc/NetEm queuing disciplines, and SDN-based routing constructs.
  • Integrate middleware modules with virtualized DE Environment components, including virtual EUDs, ATAK-based applications, UAS controllers, and tactical routers.
  • Ensure low-latency, high-throughput message brokering across simulation environments while maintaining reliability and compliance with interface standards.
  • Develop automated tests and CI pipelines to validate performance, protocol compliance, and interoperability across OneSAF, DE, and CJSIL interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot distributed simulation behaviors and resolve complex issues involving middleware logic, network emulation, and real-time data serialization.
  • Collaborate with Government engineering teams to refine interface definitions, coordinate integration timelines, and support multi-lab test events.
