About The Position

Waymo is hiring a 2027 summer Software Engineering intern for its Maneuvering Tech team. The intern will help develop the software behind Waymo’s autonomous driving technology, which enables the Waymo Driver to perceive its surroundings, make driving decisions, and transport riders safely. Interns partner with industry leaders on impactful projects while applying their knowledge and expanding their skills. This is a hybrid onsite internship. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The intern will investigate driving behavior issues using logs and large-scale data, research and implement perception and driving behavior for depots with many vehicles, improve evaluation capabilities for assessing on-road performance, and help solve challenging long-tail driving situations. The expected hourly rate is $60 for bachelor’s students and $70 for master’s students. Interns may participate in company benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a similar technical field.
General software engineering experience programming in C++ and writing robust, efficient code.
Ability to collaborate within and across teams.

Nice To Haves

Autonomous vehicle or robotics experience.
Experience with graph search, optimization, or path-planning algorithms.
Proficiency in Python and SQL.

Responsibilities

Investigate driving behavior issues using logs and identify root causes.
Analyze large amounts of data to identify trends in driving behavior.
Research, design, and implement perception and driving behavior for depots with many vehicles.
Improve evaluation capabilities to better understand on-road performance.
Contribute to solving challenging long-tail driving situations.
