About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions by managing feature implementation, testing, and ongoing support within collaborative teams. You will drive the full software development lifecycle, applying advanced programming skills and integrating AI/ML components to enhance system intelligence. This role requires strong technical judgment, solution design expertise, and a commitment to engineering excellence. You will engage stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable requirements while fostering continuous improvement and innovation to meet business and customer needs effectively. The Display Ads Optimization & Machine Learning team at Walmart Connect develops intelligent systems powering a leading retail media platform. The team designs scalable, distributed systems and machine learning platforms that enhance every stage of the advertising lifecycle, including targeting, bidding, budget optimization, and performance measurement. Processing billions of signals daily, the team enables real-time decision-making and continuous model improvement. Software Engineers collaborate with Applied Scientists, ML Engineers, and Product Managers to build backend services, data pipelines, and optimization algorithms that improve advertiser outcomes and customer experiences at scale.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software development with proficiency in languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, and C++.
  • Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, code review, debugging, and documentation-based coding practices.
  • Proven ability to deliver scoped features and models through collaborative, iterative development and continuous integration.
  • Demonstrated skills in AI/ML integration and leveraging generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
  • Solid understanding of platform design, product strategy, and technical leadership in scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with a focus on quality, performance, and customer-centric outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring peers and fostering continuous learning within engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • OR 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of scoped features and components through collaborative engineering teams, ensuring alignment with platform and system objectives.
  • Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software capabilities and development efficiency.
  • Participate in solution design, conduct code reviews, and ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor application performance, support defect management, and promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
