About The Position

Otter.ai is seeking a Software Engineer to join its growth team and work on SEO, helping more people discover Otter through organic search on search engines and AI assistants. The role improves web-page discoverability, performance, and user experience in collaboration with growth, marketing, and engineering partners. The engineer contributes to the development and enhancement of the web application, building fast, crawlable pages that search engines and AI tools can understand. The work includes implementing SEO best practices such as HTML metadata, structured data, and Core Web Vitals; using SEO tools to identify opportunities; measuring changes with experiments and analytics; and developing scalable methods to deliver SEO updates, including automation, reusable templates, and integrations with marketing tools. The position also involves maintaining code quality and application stability through debugging, testing, code reviews, and collaboration with internal and external partners. Requirements

At least 3 years of experience developing web applications using a JavaScript framework.
Proficiency in clean, reusable, optimized HTML/CSS, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
Solid understanding of web fundamentals, including how pages are rendered, crawled, and indexed.
Working knowledge of SEO best practices and experience with tools such as Google Search Console.
Experience with React and Next.js, including server-side rendering and static generation.
Familiarity with REST API principles.
Experience writing unit, integration, and UI tests, and ability to debug code that is reusable, testable, and efficient.
Interest in exploring and using current development tools and platforms, including AI tools that help scale SEO work.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Webflow or a similar CMS.
Experience with A/B testing and analytics instrumentation.
BS or MS in computer science or a related field.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the web application to support business goals and improve search visibility.
Build and improve web pages so they are fast, crawlable, and understandable to search engines and AI tools, with an emphasis on performance and user experience.
Use Google Search Console and other SEO tools to identify issues and opportunities and translate findings into engineering tasks with the team.
Write clean, maintainable, reusable code that follows industry best practices and internal standards, including for HTML metadata, structured data, and Core Web Vitals.
Help set up experiments and analytics instrumentation to measure the impact of SEO changes.
Develop scalable ways to deliver SEO changes faster, including automation, reusable page templates, and integrations with marketing tools such as Webflow.
Partner with the growth team, external SEO partners, and frontend engineers to incorporate SEO into everyday feature development.
Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve bugs to improve application quality and stability.
Conduct rigorous testing to ensure the application meets security standards and performs efficiently across platforms and devices.
Validate and test functionality across browsers, platforms, and devices to ensure a consistent user experience.
Explore new technologies, tools, and methodologies, including AI-assisted workflows, and share learnings with the team.
Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and support knowledge sharing.
