The role focuses on backend services and APIs supporting growth, engagement, and core product functionality, with production performance and reliability requirements. The engineer will own notification and lifecycle engagement systems, develop data-driven capabilities for personalization and user engagement, build APIs and event-driven workflows, and support growth experimentation. They will collaborate with product management and frontend and mobile engineering from concept through production release, translate evolving requirements into technical plans, work with relational and NoSQL databases, and monitor and improve production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressively more responsible software development work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing, testing, and maintaining production software with modern programming languages such as Go (Golang), JavaScript, and Python, including writing efficient, maintainable, well-tested code.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, developing, and documenting REST and/or RPC service APIs, including endpoint design, authentication and authorization, versioning, and integration across client-facing and internal systems.
  • At least 5 years of experience with relational and NoSQL database systems such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling for high-volume applications.
  • At least 5 years of experience building, scaling, and operating high-performance backend services and distributed systems that support high request volumes and production reliability requirements.
  • At least 5 years of experience translating ambiguous or evolving product requirements into clear technical specifications and implementation plans.
  • At least 5 years of experience implementing and supporting feature flags, A/B testing, or experimentation frameworks to evaluate product changes and drive growth or engagement metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Build, scale, and maintain backend services and APIs for growth, engagement, and core product functionality under production performance and reliability requirements.
  • Own notification and lifecycle engagement systems end-to-end, including service performance and scalability, notification APIs, delivery orchestration, and client-facing notification features.
  • Design, develop, and operate data-driven systems for personalization, targeting, ranking, and user engagement in acquisition, activation, and retention use cases.
  • Design and implement service APIs for web and mobile clients and internal systems, including authentication and authorization, versioning, and backward-compatible integrations.
  • Build and operate event-driven backend workflows using message queues or streaming platforms to process high-volume asynchronous work reliably and at scale.
  • Support growth experimentation by implementing and integrating feature flags, A/B tests, and instrumentation to measure and improve top-of-funnel and engagement outcomes.
  • Collaborate with product management and frontend and mobile engineering to deliver features from concept through production release, including rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
