Software Engineer, Internship - Sovereign AI Systems

Palantir Technologies•New York, NY

About The Position

As a Software Engineer Intern on Sovereign AI Infrastructure, you will help build systems that make AI agents useful, reliable, and governable in high-stakes operational environments. This is a hands-on software engineering internship rather than a research-only role. You will own a project with mentorship from experienced engineers and contribute to systems that make production AI useful and trustworthy. Work may involve agentic workflows or supporting layers such as customer ontologies, context assembly, tool interfaces, agent identity and permissions, evaluations, and workflows that turn model outputs into operational decisions. The role calls for strong coding fundamentals, experience or interest in AI systems, the ability to learn quickly, clear communication, and care for correctness, reliability, and customer trust. Interns collaborate with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to understand operational problems and build durable software. The estimated salary is $10,500 per month. Total compensation depends on qualifications, experience, skills, and other factors; the estimate excludes benefits and potential long-term incentives. Palantir encourages in-person work, while some teams offer hybrid options and a few roles may allow remote work on an exceptional basis. Work arrangements may vary by role and region.

  • Demonstrated interest in AI systems and agentic applications.
  • Experience coding in languages such as Java, Python, C++, Go, Rust, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, systems programming, backend services, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work full-time for the duration of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Active US Security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain a US Security clearance; beneficial but not required.
  • Strong coding fundamentals and ability to learn new languages and systems quickly.
  • Curiosity about how AI systems work in production, especially agentic systems that use tools, retrieve context, and interact with real workflows.
  • Grit and an ownership mindset, including attention to detail and seeing work through.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build production software to improve how Palantir deploys, operates, evaluates, or monitors AI systems in customer-controlled environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure for agentic workflows, including tool use, context assembly, permissions, execution safety, observability, and debugging.
  • Design and implement services, APIs, test harnesses, evaluation pipelines, or developer tools that make AI systems easier to operate.
  • Work with engineers, product teams, and customer-facing teams to understand operational problems and turn them into durable software.
  • Debug issues across services, deployment systems, logs, configuration, permissions, and product behavior.
  • Write clear, maintainable code and participate in code review.
  • Communicate design decisions, tradeoffs, and results clearly to teammates.
