•CA$125,000 - CA$148,000•Remote

About The Position

Syndio is seeking a Software Engineer to build, maintain, and manage integration platforms that enable scalable, reliable, and secure data flows across systems. The role focuses on designing and optimizing workflows, managing connectors and APIs, and supporting integration performance. It will help shape how data is ingested across the company and how customers connect systems, map fields, and review incoming data. The engineer will build native connections to HRIS, ATS, and payroll APIs; handle authentication, pagination, rate limits, schema drift, and partial failures; and improve refresh performance for large customer datasets. The role also includes making synchronization failures actionable for customers and Customer Success, improving the implementation platform with Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation, and working across a distributed system involving a Go API, Temporal workflows, a Python transformation engine, and a customer-facing frontend. The engineer will establish patterns, documentation, and error-handling conventions that support integrations at scale. The position is remote-first within commuting distance of Calgary. The successful candidate must be based in Calgary and legally authorized to work in Alberta without current or future additional visa support. The role progression describes onboarding and small integration work during the first 30 days, managing and optimizing integrations and building standard workflows by 60 days, and designing advanced architectures and governance standards while leading collaboration projects by 90 days.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience building and shipping production software, with solid backend fundamentals.
  • Python and/or Go experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining integrations with third-party APIs, including REST/SOAP, webhooks, OAuth and API-key authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and handling upstream schema changes.
  • Experience with data pipelines and orchestration, including scheduling, retries, sequencing, and monitoring workflows across systems.
  • Solid SQL skills and ability to reason about data models and transformations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP systems and their data models.
  • Strong documentation habits and a focus on making work legible to others.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Based in Calgary and legally authorized to work in Alberta without additional visa support now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Frontend experience with TypeScript/React or equivalent, and interest in building customer-facing connection experiences.
  • Experience with iPaaS tools such as Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, or Celigo, and a perspective on when to build versus buy an integration.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration engines such as Temporal or Airflow.
  • Experience with file-based ingestion at scale, including SFTP, CSV, flat-file pipelines, and validation.
  • Experience working with sensitive employee or compensation data and related security and privacy practices.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and manage integration platforms and ensure scalable, reliable, and secure data flows across systems.
  • Design, build, and optimize integration workflows, connectors, and APIs, and support integration performance.
  • Build native integrations with HRIS, ATS, and payroll APIs, addressing authentication, pagination, rate limits, schema drift, and partial failures.
  • Improve integration speed and reliability as customer datasets and sources scale.
  • Turn synchronization failures into clear, actionable feedback for customers and Customer Success.
  • Improve the implementation platform in collaboration with Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation.
  • Work across the Go API, Temporal workflows, Python transformation engine, and customer-facing frontend to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Establish patterns, documentation, and error-handling conventions for integrations.
  • Manage and optimize existing integrations, troubleshoot cross-system issues, and build standard integration workflows.
  • Design advanced integration architectures, establish governance standards, and lead collaboration projects across engineering and customer success teams.

Benefits
