Software Engineer III, iOS - Cal AI
About The Position
MyFitnessPal is seeking a Software Engineer III, iOS to join the Cal AI Engineering team. Cal AI is an AI-powered food-logging experience that helps users track nutrition through meal scanning, smart suggestions, and personalized insights. The engineer will develop and improve the native iOS app used by members in their health and fitness journeys, working closely with design, product, and engineering teammates in a collaborative and inclusive environment. The role involves building high-quality features, improving user experience and app performance, researching technical solutions that support business goals, and helping establish engineering best practices. The successful candidate will also share expertise, mentor teammates, and turn complex ideas into simple, effective solutions.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience building iOS applications in Swift within an Agile environment.
- Experience writing unit tests and testable code.
- Experience with multithreaded programming.
- Comfort working with RESTful APIs.
- Substantial experience using Git in a team environment.
- Experience working with a relational database.
- Prior use of at least one package manager.
- Some experience with CI/CD.
- Enjoy working in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for mentoring junior developers.
- Demonstrate kindness and empathy.
Nice To Haves
- Experience migrating a large legacy codebase to modern standards.
- Experience using a functional reactive programming framework such as RxSwift or Combine.
- Experience using SwiftUI.
Responsibilities
- Work with the creative design and user interface team to implement native mobile interfaces in accordance with iOS Human Interface Guidelines.
- Analyze and optimize the user experience, including UI, data storage, and network communications.
- Independently build and deliver high-quality features and improvements.
- Research and implement technical solutions that achieve business goals and benefit the growing user base.
- Provide thought leadership on best practices for design, testing, security, and deployment.
- Coach team members and help improve the success of the team.
- Collaborate with the cross-functional product engineering team to solve problems.
- Turn big ideas into simple, elegant solutions.
