About The Position

Censys is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Exposure Management team. Exposure Management combines Censys’s map of the Internet with customer context to help security teams identify important exposures, including supplier-related risks through Supplier Risk Intelligence. The role focuses on building product APIs that support these experiences and taking well-scoped features from design through launch with input from senior engineers. The engineer will work primarily in Go, integrating data and services from other Censys teams and partnering with frontend engineers to deliver fast, well-designed APIs. The role calls for customer focus, collaboration, and a commitment to continued learning. It is remote within the United States or Canada.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience building backend services.
  • Production experience with Go, or strong experience in another backend language such as Python or Java and the motivation to become proficient in Go quickly.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST or gRPC APIs, ideally APIs consumed by a frontend application.
  • Solid SQL skills and working knowledge of relational data modeling, indexing, and query performance.
  • A track record of building maintainable software, including tests enforced in CI, meaningful monitoring and alerting, and thoughtful code reviews.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with engineers, product managers, and other teams.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new domains, tools, and parts of the stack.
  • A positive attitude, bias toward action, and an iterative approach to problem solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with security products, especially attack surface management, third-party risk, or vulnerability management.
  • Experience building APIs for external developer or partner integrations, including OpenAPI specs, versioning, or webhooks.
  • Experience with event-driven systems such as GCP PubSub or Kafka, and patterns such as idempotency and retries.
  • Experience deploying containerized services on Kubernetes in GCP or AWS.
  • Fluency with AI coding tools as a way to build better software.
  • Working understanding of how the Internet works, including DNS record types, WHOIS, and Certificate Subject Alternative Names (SANs).

Responsibilities

  • Own small-to-medium product API features end to end, from technical design through launch, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Build and extend public REST and gRPC APIs for Exposure Management and Supplier Risk Intelligence, including risk event endpoints for integrations with Splunk, Google SecOps, and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Partner with frontend engineers and product stakeholders on API contracts, filtering, pagination, and response shapes.
  • Integrate data and services from other Censys teams through gRPC and GCP PubSub, and agree on interfaces that can evolve.
  • Profile and optimize API performance, including Postgres query plans, indexing, caching, and payload size.
  • Write tests, add observability, and take release and on-call responsibility for shipped services.
  • Bring customer feedback into design discussions.
  • Help onboard interns and newer engineers in the engineer’s area.
