About The Position

The fab2 team is responsible for building all the necessary hardware and software for chip manufacturing, including the fabs, tools, and components themselves. They are seeking exceptional, hands-on individuals who can push the boundaries of what's possible. The Software team within fab2 develops the software that operates the entire system. This specific role is for a Software Engineer to build the AI platform for fab2. It's a greenfield opportunity with broad ownership across the AI stack, focusing on building the infrastructure and agent systems that transform engineering knowledge and workflows into valuable tools for various teams within fab2.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.
  • Comfortable working across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data.
  • Effective with AI coding tools while maintaining the ability to independently read, write, debug, and reason about code.
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to transform ambiguous problems into functional systems.
  • Strong technical communication skills.
  • High degree of ownership.

Nice To Haves

  • Founding engineer, CTO, or early-stage startup background.
  • Experience building AI agents, developer tools, evals, or ML infrastructure.
  • Hands-on work with GPU or on-prem compute infrastructure.
  • Exposure to robotics, hardware, scientific computing, or automated experimentation.
  • Experience building software for regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build the infrastructure for using AI models across cloud providers and our own on-prem compute.
  • Develop agents, shared skills, MCP servers, and sandboxed execution environments.
  • Create evals and benchmarks to measure agent performance, identify failures, and guide improvements.
  • Translate engineering knowledge and repeatable workflows into shared AI tools for teams to build upon.
  • Develop AI systems for automated experimentation, defect detection, engineering analysis, and fab operations.
  • Explore systems capable of analyzing results, proposing next steps, and potentially interacting with physical equipment.
  • Contribute to shaping the application of AI across Fab2 and within the fab itself.
