About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on Kinetic’s AI Platform team, you will build and enhance the platform that supports AI agents across the insurance lifecycle, including broker submissions, underwriting, and claims. You will own the orchestration layer, tools, evaluation infrastructure, and guardrails that enable agents to be safely released, assessed against business outcomes, and rolled back when changes do not work. This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor role involving daily production coding, technical direction for agent infrastructure, and partnership with product and platform development teams. The position reports to the Tech Lead - Data & AI. Kinetic is a remote-first company headquartered in New York City, and the role is fully distributed across continental U.S. time zones. Domestic travel is required for company offsites and team alignment. Candidates must reside in the United States and already be authorized to work there. Identity and employment eligibility verification will be conducted in person before employment; offers are contingent on identity and background verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years building production LLM-powered systems, beyond demos.
  • Strong Python experience on serverless platforms; AWS is preferred.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
  • Hands-on experience building multi-agent systems using CrewAI or another agent framework, such as LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK, Google ADK, or AWS Bedrock AgentCore.
  • Experience with tool calling, structured outputs, RAG, and MCP.
  • Experience building evaluation and observability for LLM systems, such as golden datasets, automated graders, and tracing.
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain probabilistic systems to business partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an insurtech, MGA, carrier, or another regulated industry such as healthcare or financial services; workers’ compensation, underwriting, or claims workflow experience is especially relevant.
  • Experience shipping systems that handle sensitive data under HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar requirements.
  • Experience with Salesforce, data lakes such as Athena, and multi-model cost optimization.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry or similar tracing for LLM systems.
  • Experience in startups or high-growth environments, building systems from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the agent orchestration layer, including model routing, tools, memory, permissions, and guardrails, while keeping it portable across frameworks and model providers.
  • Manage agents as code, shipping prompts, tools, and model versions through CI/CD, tracking cost and latency, and enabling rollbacks.
  • Build MCP servers and other tools that provide agents secure access to Salesforce, Athena, and claims data, including PHI and PII redaction and complete audit logs.
  • Build an evaluation harness and rollout gates to test changes against golden datasets before production release.
  • Build human-in-the-loop checkpoints for decisions that require human review.
  • Replatform or retire existing one-off AI scripts and workflows.
  • Set standards, review agent designs and code, and mentor engineers building agents across Kinetic.
  • Evaluate when to use AI and whether to buy or build systems and components.

Benefits
