The Retail team within Agent Engineering focuses on supporting prominent consumer brands like Gap, Wayfair, Sonos, and ADT, aiming to redefine commerce in the AI-first era. This team handles hundreds of millions of customer interactions annually across various channels, assisting shoppers with product discovery, order tracking, and troubleshooting. The team emphasizes a product-led approach, where engineers, product managers, and strategists are encouraged to have end-to-end ownership and contribute beyond their defined roles to shape the future of the retail industry. Engineers on the Retail Team are expected to be product-led thinkers, capable of owning an agent from conception to deployment. The team fosters an environment where individuals go beyond their specific roles to build the groundwork for the future of retail.

Requirements

  • Experience building and scaling end-to-end production systems.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills, especially in fast-changing, ambiguous environments.
  • A builder and tinkerer's mindset with high agency - you find creative ways to overcome obstacles and ship.
  • Comfort working directly with customers to understand their needs and solve real-world problems.
  • Excellent communication skills—clear, direct, and persuasive across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excitement in the retail space and a care for helping some of the world’s top brands continue to build brand loyalty with their customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or deploying AI/LLM systems in production
  • Have been a founder or founding engineer - you know what it means to balance craft, ownership, and speed
  • Familiarity with tools that power today's AI agents: eval frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering
  • Prior experience with React, TypeScript, and/or Go
  • Previous roles where you interfaced with customers or led technical projects with external stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver production-grade AI agents that are highly performant, reliable, and intuitive, driving revenue directly to Sierra's growth.
  • Drive the Agent Development Life Cycle (ADLC), taking complete ownership from initial pilot through deployment and continuous iteration.
  • Build, tune, and evolve AI agents in production environments, defining best practices for ADLC.
  • Partner directly with leaders at large enterprises and cutting-edge startups to understand business challenges and build transformative AI agents.
  • Embed AI agents across customer business stacks to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Guide the evolution of Sierra's core platform through direct customer work, surfacing unmet needs, prototyping new tools and features, and collaborating with research, product, and platform teams.
