About The Position

The Software Development Engineer will contribute to Workday’s AI Platform Document Intelligence team, working with senior engineers and ML researchers to build and deploy robust, scalable AI platforms. The role focuses on turning machine-learning concepts into production-ready solutions, particularly agentic AI capabilities involving planning, reasoning, and action execution.

The engineer will develop and maintain AI platform capabilities, including tool calling, multi-agent architectures, and human-in-the-loop integrations. The role also involves building secure RESTful services using Python and Kubernetes and contributing to multi-tenant runtime architectures that support fast inference and scale to millions of users.

The position collaborates with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical designs, participates in design reviews and code-quality initiatives, and applies software engineering best practices. It also uses MLOps practices such as automation, observability, and CI/CD, while keeping current with AI/ML technologies and sharing knowledge with the team.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software development engineering experience, including designing, developing, and deploying software solutions.
• At least 2 years of Python experience, with a consistent record of shipping production code and systems.
• At least 2 years of experience building scalable data pipelines and working with large-scale datasets.
• At least 2 years of validated experience deploying production services to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and using containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes for MLOps.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to use algorithmic thinking to design and implement efficient solutions for agentic system development.
• Expertise in engineering, deploying, and applying MLOps to advanced machine-learning solutions, such as generative models, LLMs, RAG, and AI agents.
• Strong understanding of scalable distributed systems, performance optimization, database technologies such as PostgreSQL and Redis, and robust API development.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and analyze efficient algorithms for complex problems.
• Ability to build flexible, reusable, and well-documented software components.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies in a continuous deployment environment.
• Strong ownership and ability to deliver high-quality finished products efficiently.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including team collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and focus on customer impact.

Responsibilities
