Software Development Engineer Staff

Equinix•New York City, NY

About The Position

Equinix’s Developer Experience team builds solutions for the Equinix Developer Platform, improving templates, tooling, and automation used by engineers to design, build, ship, and operate software. The role designs and operates opinionated, self-service systems that reduce developer toil at scale and helps define the safe, effective adoption of AI-driven software development lifecycle (SDLC) models across the engineering organization. This includes AI-assisted coding and review, as well as agentic workflows embedded in the delivery pipeline. The position partners with security, CI/CD, and application engineering teams to align standards without creating bottlenecks. It also contributes to the evolution of the developer portal and platform products. The role is available in the United States and Canada, with location-specific target base pay ranges. It is a new position within the organization.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a platform engineering or developer experience role at a mid-to-large engineering organization.
  • Experience designing and operating opinionated systems at scale that hundreds of engineers depend on daily.
  • A track record of reducing developer toil through automation, not just documentation or guidelines.
  • Working understanding of AI-driven SDLC models, including how AI tools and agents affect code writing, review, testing, security, and delivery, and the associated risks and governance considerations.
  • Strong written communication skills; tooling must be self-explanatory, and documentation is part of the deliverable.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with security, CI/CD, and application engineering teams to align on standards without creating bottlenecks.

Nice To Haves

  • Background at companies with strong platform cultures, such as Spotify, Netflix, Stripe, Uber, or Airbnb.
  • Experience with Backstage or similar developer portal frameworks.
  • Familiarity with enterprise compliance requirements, including audit trails, change evidence, and vulnerability scanning integration.
  • Hands-on experience integrating LLM-based or agentic tools into developer workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience measuring engineering effectiveness, such as DORA metrics, lead time for change, or delivery velocity.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate golden-path systems that make the right way the easy way for engineers across the company.
  • Eliminate developer toil through automation and productized tooling rather than documentation or guidelines alone.
  • Shape and implement AI-driven SDLC capabilities, including AI-assisted code generation, review, test generation, and agentic workflows, ensuring they meet quality, security, and compliance standards.
  • Evaluate AI’s impact on delivery speed, quality, and developer satisfaction, and use evidence to guide the platform roadmap.
  • Partner with security, CI/CD, and application engineering teams to align on standards without creating bottlenecks.
  • Contribute to the evolution of developer portal and platform products.

Benefits

  • Employee Assistance Program available to all employees.
  • Health or healthcare insurance coverage, with life, disability, and voluntary or optional plans available depending on location.
  • Retirement or savings plans, including employer contributions in the United States and Equinix-sponsored plans in Canada.
  • Accrued paid time off and paid holidays in the United States.
  • Vacation, personal time, and paid holidays in Canada.
  • Employees are eligible for a bonus; equity may be offered depending on the position.
