About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in the Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver). These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions that vary from semester to semester based on program needs. Screening of applicants will occur when positions become available, and not all applicants in the pool will be contacted or selected to teach. The university, established in 1965, serves over 16,000 diverse students and is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. The Department of Social Work prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be skillful, ethical, justice-oriented, and effective social work practitioners. Faculty are teacher-scholars dedicated to supporting students and are experts in culturally responsive, relationally based practice. The department is committed to anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices, aiming to dismantle systems of oppression. Priority is given to applicants with a demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented communities. Affiliate faculty will work with a Lead Faculty and participate in a content teaching team, typically teaching one to two courses per semester, with a maximum of three courses per semester. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree, plus a minimum of two years of experience in legal areas relevant to social work practice, OR
  • A Master’s in social work from a CSWE Accredited Program, plus a minimum of two years of relevant post MSW experience, OR
  • A Master’s degree in related field, plus a minimum of two years of post master’s experience related relevant to social work

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) – accredited institution
  • Five years of relevant post MSW or related master’s degree experience
  • PhD or ABD Doctoral level course work in one or more content areas
  • Two years of teaching experience relevant to one or more content areas
  • Previous experience in teaching in an online environment
  • Experience with diverse, historically underrepresented and/or first-generation college students

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content to students.
  • Preparing course materials and lesson plans.
  • Grading student work.
  • Providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner.
  • Addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies.
  • Providing online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.
  • Providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies.
  • Adhering to department course coordination and Lead Faculty Model policies.
  • Complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
  • Adapting and learning new modes of instruction.
  • Being sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
