About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in the Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University (MSU Denver). These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions. The number of positions varies by semester based on program needs. MSU Denver, established in 1965, serves over 16,000 diverse students and is a model university for today’s college students, recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. The Department of Social Work focuses on preparing social work scholars, practitioners, and leaders through culturally responsive, relationally based, and anti-oppressive practices. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs with a mission to prepare social workers for skillful, ethical, justice-oriented, and effective practice. Affiliate faculty will work with a Lead Faculty and participate in a content teaching team, typically teaching one to two courses per semester, with a maximum of three. Candidates are encouraged to complete a teaching preference survey. MSU Denver faculty are committed to anti-racist practices and dismantling systems of oppression. The department is actively revising its curriculum to reflect anti-oppressive practices and educate students for effective social work services with diverse communities in micro, mezzo, and macro settings.

Requirements

  • Master’s in social work from a CSWE Accredited Program (for practice courses).
  • Minimum of two years of relevant post MSW experience (for practice courses).
  • Master’s in social work from a CSWE Accredited Program (for field seminar courses).
  • Minimum of five years of relevant post MSW experience (for field seminar courses).
  • Ability to teach in person/on campus upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) – accredited institution.
  • Five years of relevant post MSW or related master’s degree experience.
  • PhD or ABD Doctoral level course work in one or more content areas.
  • Two years of teaching experience relevant to one or more content areas.
  • Previous experience in teaching in an online environment.
  • Experience with diverse, historically underrepresented and/or first-generation college students.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content to students.
  • Preparing course materials and lesson plans.
  • Grading student work.
  • Providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner.
  • Addressing student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies.
  • Providing online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.
  • Providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies.
  • Adhering to department course coordination and Lead Faculty Model policies.
  • Complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
  • Adapting and learning new modes of instruction.
  • Being sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
