Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care (Yee Hong) is a recognized leader in senior care, dedicated to providing exceptional, culturally inclusive services that enhance the well-being of older adults. The organization operates 805 long-term care beds and 308 seniors’ apartment units, with an additional 224 long-term care beds opening in a new home by June 2026. In addition, Yee Hong offers four campuses of managed care, a hospice residence, and a wide range of community-based senior and caregiver support services. Through this comprehensive network, the organization serves more than 15,000 individuals annually across the Greater Toronto Area. This Social Services Volunteer Coordinator position is sponsored by the Government of Canada, as per the Canada Summer Jobs Program (CSJ) 2026 initiative. The role involves supporting volunteer recruitment, orientation, engagement, and providing administrative assistance to enhance volunteer programs and services.

Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 years of age at the start of the job
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally able to work in Ontario
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
  • Proven demonstrated initiative
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work remotely as required
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
  • Must provide a recent satisfactory vulnerable sector police reference check
  • Must provide a medical clearance certificate
  • Commit to working for the duration of the entire employment contract

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with the elderly population an asset
  • Knowledge of Chinese, Japanese or a South-Asian language required for some positions

Responsibilities

  • Support the Volunteer Recruitment Campaign targeting specific groups, including boomers, retirees, students, and new immigrants.
  • Organize special interest presentations to engage and attract prospective volunteers.
  • Develop and enhance electronic promotional materials (e.g., posters, brochures, newsletters) to strengthen outreach efforts.
  • Implement orientation and training sessions for new volunteers.
  • Assist volunteer applicants throughout the application and placement process to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Develop strategies to form and engage volunteer groups.
  • Collaborate with teams to expand services through effective volunteer engagement.
  • Organize volunteer-related documents.
  • Assist with filing and e-filing to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
