About The Position

Founded in 1969, Settlement Housing Fund is a nonprofit affordable housing organization. We own and operate 3,147 affordable apartments across New York City and are currently creating and preserving additional 3,031 apartments. We provide social services through on site support to ensure housing stability for tenants who have transitioned from shelters into permanent housing at our buildings and those of other owners. We serve as an HDFC nominee to provide private developers with access to City financing to expand the supply of affordable housing. We are a leader in tenant selection and affirmative fair housing, leasing hundreds of units annually for other affordable housing owners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Public Administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of program coordination or supervisory experience, preferably in housing or human services.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management systems required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to travel within the NYC area using public transportation.
  • Ability to work successfully in a hybrid environment.
  • Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to providing affordable housing for low to moderate income population.

Nice To Haves

  • LMSW or MSW preferred, or master’s degree in related discipline.
  • Knowledge of various city social service agencies and community based organizations related to housing and homelessness preferred.
  • Bilingual a plus but not a requirement

Responsibilities

  • Meet with assigned households on a regularly scheduled basis in their home, in the community, and in the office to address challenges impacting their housing stability.
  • Ensure completion of ongoing timely case notes recording service delivery; including but not limited to assessments, intakes, goals, referrals, etc. for assigned households.
  • Identify household service needs and determine appropriate interventions to support desired outcomes, including assistance with entitlements, arrears resolution, and other direct supportive advocacy or outreach services.
  • Attend appointments as needed with households to ensure all issues are addressed.
  • Serve as a liaison with property management to address repairs, lease signing, etc.
  • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and performance oversight to Resident Engagement Specialists, including regular check ins, coaching, and support with complex cases, to ensure consistent, high quality support to households.
  • Monitor service delivery workflows to ensure timely completion of intakes, assessments, service plans, referrals, and follow up for their team.
  • Support escalated tenant concerns and collaborate with staff to resolve issues related to housing stability, benefits, repairs, and lease related matters.
  • Oversee data entry, documentation quality, and timely submission of service notes, goals, assessments, and referrals for their team.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems for tenant arrears, apartment repairs, subsidy renewals, service delivery milestones, and program outcomes for their team.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal use and for submission to other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual and agency documentation standards.
  • Identify local referral resources, community partners, and supportive services to enhance program offerings.
  • Conduct annual tenant needs assessments and collaborate with the Senior Director of Social Services to design programming and policies responsive to those needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing tenant engagement strategies, workshops, and supportive programming.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and contribute to program planning and improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between program staff, property management, and social service agencies.
  • Coordinate closely with the Senior Director of Social Services to align program goals, address operational needs, and support strategic planning.
  • Provide coverage and support for other Social Services Coordinators as needed.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested.
