Social Services Aide

CalHR•Quincy, CA

About The Position

Under general supervision, the Social Services Aide assists Social Workers by performing designated tasks related to improving family functioning and providing child and adult services. This paraprofessional role supports Social Workers with routine tasks, which may include assessing clients in the In-Home Support Services program, teaching parenting and household-management skills, and carrying out tasks for child and adult service programs. The role requires less skill and training than a professional Social Worker position. Incumbents receive supervision from a Social Worker Supervisor or another higher-level supervisor or manager. The aide may maintain a routine caseload of elderly adults receiving household services; assess client needs and verify them with medical and health-service providers; prepare reports and enter case information into an automated system; make referrals; provide training and counseling to parents with mental illness or developmental disabilities; monitor care for abused children; supervise parent-child visits; provide emergency childcare; and transport or accompany clients to appointments. The aide also helps families access community resources and serves as a liaison between clients, professional staff, and community members. Retention bonuses are offered: $2,500 upon completion of hiring, $2,500 one year after hire, and $5,000 after the second full year of employment.
