About The Position

The Social Media Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-channel social media strategy aligned with organizational goals, marketing campaigns, and ministry initiatives. This role requires staying ahead of social media trends, algorithm changes, and digital and SEO best practices to keep the ministry’s digital presence innovative and relevant. The manager will maintain a unified, authentic brand voice while allowing flexibility for individual platform cultures, ensuring all social media output maintains the theological alignment, tone, and brand standards of Joni and Friends. Key responsibilities include planning, editing, and overseeing the production of high-quality, engaging content (copy, video, graphics, and stories), growing brand awareness through creative campaigns, curating impactful community stories, and optimizing native content for social SEO. The role also involves cultivating active online communities, guiding the community engagement team, monitoring public conversations, and establishing crisis communication protocols. Additionally, the manager will handle influencer marketing, manage collaborations, brief content creators, monitor influencer content, and stay updated on emerging influencers and trends. Analytics are crucial, involving tracking and analyzing performance data, using insights to optimize strategy, and reporting key metrics to senior leadership. Management duties include leading and managing direct reports, providing guidance, training, and support, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering a positive work environment. Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Must possess a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ and agree with the Joni and Friends statement of faith
  • Desire to serve in a growing and dynamic Christian service ministry
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Creativity and passion for building relational connections with constituents through social media
  • 4+ years of professional experience managing brand social media accounts
  • 2+ years managing a team
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices
  • Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, HubSpot)
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a sharp eye for detail
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience making decisions based on analytical results
  • Strong video editing skills for short-form content using tools like CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or similar
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft O365 and Asana
  • Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends is desirable
  • The employee must be able to sit for extended periods, operate a computer and other standard office equipment, communicate clearly in person and over the phone, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach to access files and supplies.
  • The role may also require occasionally lifting or carrying items up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, edit, and oversee the production of high-quality, engaging content (copy, video, graphics, and stories) tailored for brand, team, and personnel channels
  • Grow brand awareness through the development of creative campaigns and opportunities for lead generation and engagement, including giveaways, collaborations, and trends
  • Lead the curation of impactful community stories that highlight ministry supporters and partners
  • Attend events as needed to capture content of ministry at work
  • Optimize native content for social SEO to capture high-intent search traffic within platforms
  • Cultivate active online communities by fostering meaningful, hope-filled conversations
  • Guide and mentor the community engagement team as they moderate and respond to comments and messages
  • Proactively monitor public conversations, audience sentiment, and industry trends
  • Establish and execute crisis communication protocols to safely navigate public relations escalations
  • Manage collaboration opportunities and relationships between Joni and Friends and like-minded influencers, partners, and organizations
  • Brief and collaborate with content creators, design teams, videographers, and external agencies to ensure high-impact assets
  • Monitor influencer and partnership content to ensure compliance with brand voice and guidelines
  • Actively keep a pulse on emerging influencers and trends through social media channels
  • Track and analyze performance data to extract actionable consumer insights
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously optimize brand content and strategy
  • Report on key metrics and translate complex data into clear, strategic recommendations for senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, including performance within the industry
  • Lead and manage direct reports, providing guidance, training, and timely support
  • Schedule regular 1:1s with direct reports to review projects, goals, expectations, and overall performance
  • Continuously develop the skills and knowledge of direct reports to enhance their capabilities and identify skills gaps and work with staff to close the gaps and complete their goals
  • Conduct performance evaluations and foster a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to support department and organizational needs

Benefits
