About The Position

From the heart of Silicon Valley, the Computer History Museum is on a mission to decode technology — its computing past, digital present, and future impact — to inform, inspire, and empower people to shape a better future. The Social Media Manager will play a key role in bringing this mission to life by creating engaging digital content, growing online communities, and strengthening the Museum’s presence across social media platforms. Reporting to the Museum’s communications leadership team, this position will lead audience-focused storytelling efforts while collaborating across departments to elevate exhibitions, programs, campaigns, and institutional priorities.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience managing social media for a brand, nonprofit, museum, educational institution, or mission-driven organization
  • Strong experience creating and publishing engaging content across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and X
  • Demonstrated ability to produce compelling short-form video, graphics, and written social content
  • Excellent storytelling and writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences and platforms
  • Experience using analytics and performance metrics to refine content strategy and improve engagement
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work cross-functionally across marketing, curatorial, education, PR, and development teams

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with social media management and analytics tools preferred
  • Experience with CRM or marketing platforms such as Salesforce or HubSpot preferred
  • Basic photo/video editing and content production skills preferred
  • Passion for technology, education, audience engagement, and mission-driven storytelling

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute social media strategies aligned with Museum goals, brand voice, and audience priorities
  • Create engaging digital content across video, graphics, and written formats for multiple social platforms
  • Manage the Museum’s presence across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and emerging platforms
  • Collaborate with internal teams to elevate exhibitions, educational programs, campaigns, and institutional storytelling initiatives
  • Support integrated marketing, PR, and paid social campaigns across departments
  • Engage and grow online communities while encouraging audience interaction and discussion
  • Monitor social media trends, emerging platforms, and new technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and growth
  • Track and analyze platform performance metrics to optimize strategy and audience engagement
  • Oversee production timelines, content approvals, and project deliverables
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment across all social media channels
