Social Media Manager

D.S. & DurgaBrooklyn, NY
Hybrid

About The Position

D.S. & Durga is a Brooklyn fragrance house seeking a Social Media Manager to own their social strategy. The role involves translating the experience of fragrance into digital content, working directly with founders, the Art Director, and fractional CMO. Collaboration with Influencer & GTM and Commercial teams is key, as social media is part of a larger discovery engine that extends beyond the app into physical retail and personal experiences. The position requires a blend of analytical understanding of platform mechanics and creative execution to produce beautiful and effective content. The ideal candidate will translate performance data into strategic direction for the team. The role's creative toolkit is inspired by "Music, Myth & the Mundane," focusing on building scent characters, creating narratives around products, and finding the compelling charge in ordinary objects. Initial priorities include reframing existing assets for Instagram, rebooting TikTok with rapid experimentation, and exploring future platforms like YouTube.

Requirements

  • Self-starter, curious by nature, energized by building from zero.
  • Creative first, genuinely technical second; view platforms and algorithms as craft.
  • Strong communicator capable of aligning founders, creatives, and commercial partners.
  • Ability to strategize and build step by step.
  • Comfortable being both a strategist and an executor.
  • Plugged into culture, creators, and the wider content ecosystem.
  • 5–7 years of experience in social media strategy, brand content, or digital storytelling within beauty, lifestyle, or luxury consumer brands.
  • Track record of building social strategies from the ground up.
  • Strong editorial instincts and copywriting ability, with command of tone, wit, and nuance.
  • Deep, current understanding of social platforms, algorithms, cultural trends, and creator-driven content ecosystems.
  • Experience managing creative production (briefing photographers, editors, freelancers, creators).
  • Comfortable reading analytics and translating performance data into clear, actionable direction.
  • High visual literacy and appreciation for design, aesthetics, and craft.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, founder-led environment with a high creative bar.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret business, professional, technical, or governmental documents.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the public.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, CapCut, native Instagram/TikTok/YouTube Shorts editors, scheduling tools (Later, Sprout Social, or Meta Business Suite), platform analytics, Google Analytics, Excel/Google Sheets, Canva or Adobe Express, Figma, Asana or Notion.

Responsibilities

  • Build a social strategy in partnership with founders, Art Director, and fractional CMO.
  • Sequence and build strategy step by step, understanding priorities.
  • Synthesize the brand's essence into a social context native to each platform.
  • Develop content pillars: Character (persona, vibe, moment), Fume (notes, family, samples), Playlist (world beyond the bottle), World Building (educate on olfactive range), Fan Mail (build culture club), and Merchandise (make brand visible and collectible).
  • Be plugged into content producers and creators, and be willing to shoot, edit, and brief as needed.
  • Partner with Influencer & GTM and Commercial teams to build content that compounds momentum.
  • Design for the online-to-offline journey, connecting screen discovery to IRL moments.
  • Maintain storytelling consistency with Creative, Retail, and PR teams.
