About The Position

The Social Development Specialist supports young adults ages 16–24 in a Job Corps education and vocational training program. The role helps students adjust to Center life through supervision, mentoring, behavior support, safety monitoring, recreation, life-skills activities, and informal counseling. The position is part-time, scheduled Friday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of methods for instilling appropriate behavior and work and study habits in adolescent students.
• Knowledge of housekeeping techniques and management.
• Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, communicate, and execute instructions or directives fluently in English.
• Must obtain CPR and first aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification, and mentorship.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of the assigned area and report and document facility- or safety-related issues.
• Supervise or assist with monitoring students’ personal hygiene, room and chore assignments, recreation activities, cafeteria, transportation, and programmed activities.
• Ensure student wake-up procedures are followed and that each present student signs the MAC for student accountability.
• Maintain bulletin boards in the assigned area with current student and Center information.
• Organize, conduct, and direct recreation and non-vocational activities.
• Facilitate small-group discussions on life skills, peer mediation, conflict resolution, and related topics.
• Provide informal counseling regarding stress management, personal problems, emergencies, and home situations, and offer guidance on responsible behaviors and attitudes.
