About The Position

Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS) is seeking a Soccer Coach for 6th-12th grade students. This is a 10-month, exempt position that requires an unwavering commitment to the Fugees Family, Inc. mission and a willingness to go above and beyond to meet the needs of students, families, and staff. The program serves middle school students, many of whom perform below grade level. The school model is built around the values, structures, and shared experience of soccer, emphasizing teamwork, collective responsibility, and mutual support. Fugees Academy is a tuition-free, community-based, public charter school dedicated to advancing educational justice for refugee and English Language Learner students. The instructional model is trauma-aware and focuses on foundational skills often lacking in children with interrupted schooling.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Previous soccer coaching or competitive playing experience.
  • Knowledge of soccer rules, skills, and game strategies.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
  • Excellent command of the English language with a passion for supporting expressive language in non-native speakers.
  • A strong sense of loving accountability and individual and collective responsibility.
  • Believe that all students are capable of academic achievement.
  • Commit to building deep, authentic relationships with students and families.
  • Duties and expectations are carried out in a positive, productive, accurate, and punctual/on-time manner.
  • Be receptive to coaching, mentoring, feedback, and performance evaluations for purposes of professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead effective soccer practices and games.
  • Teach soccer fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive team environment.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Ensure compliance with school and athletic policies.
  • Maintain equipment and assist with program administration as needed.
